AI and Super Intelligence: A Note on the Terminology
You may hear super intelligence, or SI, used where you once heard artificial intelligence, or AI. The U.S. administration has directed executive-branch agencies to adopt the newer wording, and some technology leaders have also begun using it. CNBC reports on the change and its adoption.
We continue to use AI on this site because it is a familiar way to describe the practical tools and automation we help businesses use today. The terms are not always interchangeable: superintelligence has also been used to describe a possible level of AI capability beyond human intelligence. A change in terminology does not, by itself, establish that today’s tools have reached that level.
